Black Revolution

If the overthrow of oppressors by an oppressed people is the classic denouement of revolution, then a black revolution has not occurred in America.  Though disrupted and distressed during the 1960s, the nation was not permanently disabled.  The balance of power between oppressor and oppressed was not radically altered.  Established authority was not abruptly terminated.  In short, black people did not acquire sufficient public and private resources to liberate themselves from poverty and ghetto life and, as individuals, to fulfill their highest human potentials….

Yet revolutionary changes did in fact occur during the 1960s both within the black community and hence, to a lesser degree, in white America….
